I hope you are having a lovely summer!
As you all know there is a list of goals that the group would like to be completed this summer.
I had Todd Dupuis out the other day to make recommendations about rock pools. He is with the Atlantic Salmon Federation and has been in the field for 24 years. He is recognized by the Dept.'s of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries as someone qualified to give recommendations. He advised me not to put in any rock pools. He did however recommend some other rock work. Apparently the way some rock was placed near a culvert last year was incorrect, which will lead to the blowout of the bank around it within the next couple of years. He offered to come and show us the proper rock placement and to supervise for a half hour.
In speaking with an individual from the Dept. of Forestry, I also found out that last year there were many recommendations from the Dept.'s of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries that a slit trap not be put in Hyde Creek as well.
On the other hand our brush matting is going extremely well. We have much more than met our goal in this one.
I want to keep everyone in the loop so that it is not thought that we just never got around to these goals this summer. Since we aren't holding an August meeting I am going to write an email update to all members of the group, and I am hoping that one of you could possibly send me the group list.
Anyhow, have a good day.
