The Cornwall and Area Watershed Group (CAWG) was founded by a group of Cornwall residents who wanted to play an active role in the preservation and revitalization of our local watershed. The group has been active since February 2009. If you live in Cornwall, your watershed is the Hyde Creek Watershed. It is a tremendous resource, important to the environmental sustainability of the community.
CAWG employees and volunteers completed a great deal of work in 2011. A new coordinator and three youth from the community were hired. Together we held our annual Spring Clean-Up, continued with the brush-mat project, removed several blockages and raked away watercress. Currently, work is being done on a long term management plan for the Hyde Creek watershed and residents are encouraged to contact CAWG with any input on how the watershed should be managed for the long term.
There will be no CAWG meeting in December. The next meeting will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 10th 2012 at the Cornwall Town Hall. New volunteers are needed on the Executive to act as Treasurer, Secretary and Webmaster. Anyone interested in joining the group is welcome and encouraged to attend the January meeting.
